History

What we know. So far, at least.

We've been able to piece together some of the story behind the occurrences on Halloween from historical records, but the story is incomplete. For now, here is what we know.

The body of water now known as Lost Lake was once an open field known in the past as Cow Pond Meadows. Perched upon a nearby hill to the East sat Meadow View Cemetery, a peaceful place of rest for the dearly departed. As far as we can tell it was active from 1734 until 1843 when the last known caretaker, Balthos MacGregor, was laid to rest by his wife Molly. It seems that over the years the cemetery and its presumably serene view of the meadow and ponds below became overgrown as the place was lost to obscurity and forgotten during the latter half of the 19th century.

At the turn of the 20th century, in hopes of drawing visitors from the city during summer months, the streams running through the meadow were dammed and Lost Lake was born. As the land around the newly formed lake was developed, crews stumbled upon the long forgotten Meadow View Cemetery. 

In the interest of promoting the newly created area as a resort destination, the cemetery was relocated, though none of the records seem to indicate where. As disconcerting as this is, what worries us most is that the last two graves were removed on October 31, 1923. Rumor has it they were the graves of Balthos and Molly MacGregor. One can't help but think this is more than mere coincidence. We fear this may be the key to the events that occur on this land every October 31. And each year it gets a little worse than the last.
